چکیده

A local interpolation operator, preserving the divergence, is constructed explicitly, which is the first ever one for the divergence-free elements. A divergence-free finite element method is applied to the Darcy-Stokes-Brinkman flow in a mixed region of both free and porous medium. The method is of optimal order in contrast to the traditional H and H mixed finite elements, which work for either the Darcy flow or the Stokes flow but not the mixture. Comparing to the existing non-conforming elements, the divergence-free element method provides a continuous solution for the velocity which is also an orthogonal projection within a Hilbert subspace of the true velocity. Numerical tests supporting the theory are presented.

Uniformly-stable Finite Element Methods for Darcy-stokes-brinkman Models

In this paper, we consider 2D and 3D Darcy-Stokes interface problems. These equations are related to Brinkman model that treats both Darcy’s law and Stokes equations in a single form of PDE but with strongly discontinuous viscosity coefficient and zerothorder term coefficient. We present three different methods to construct uniformly stable finite element approximations. The first two methods a...

A stabilized mixed finite element method for Darcy–Stokes flow

This paper presents a new stabilized finite element method for the Darcy–Stokes equations also known as the Brinkman model of lubrication theory. These equations also govern the flow of incompressible viscous fluids through permeable media. The proposed method arises from a decomposition of the velocity field into coarse/resolved scales and fine/unresolved scales. Modelling of the unresolved sc...

Comparison of Binomial and Power Equations in Radial Non-Darcy Flows in Coarse Porous Media

Analysis of non-laminar flows in coarse alluvial beds has a wide range of applications in various civil engineering, oil and gas, and geology problems. Darcy equation is not valid to analyze transient and turbulent flows, so non-linear equations should be applied. Non-linear equations are classified into power and binomial equations. Binomial equation is more accurate in a wide range of velocit...

Well-posed Stokes/Brinkman and Stokes/Darcy problems for coupled fluid-porous viscous flows

We present a well-posed model for the Stokes/Brinkman problem with a family of jump embedded boundary conditions (J.E.B.C.) on an immersed interface with weak regularity assumptions. It is issued from a general framework recently proposed for fictitious domain problems. Our model is based on algebraic transmission conditions combining the stress and velocity jumps on the interface S separating ...

On the well-posed coupling between free fluid and porous viscous flows

We present a well-posed model for the Stokes/Brinkman problem with jump embedded boundary conditions (J.E.B.C.) on an immersed interface. It is issued from a general framework recently proposed for fictitious domain problems. Our model is based on algebraic transmission conditions combining the stress and velocity jumps on the interface Σ separating the fluid and porous domains. These condition...
